Jungle Roots Children's Dentistry and Orthodontics is committed to the dental health of your children, but we are committed to their overall health as well. As we learn of new science and studies regarding children, we want to bring awareness to these topics so that, as a parent, you have the most current information.
Recently, a member of our staff told us about a book they were reading called "The Deepest Well" by Nadine Burke Harris, M.D. (2018). This fascinating book discusses ACEs, which stands for adverse childhood experiences. ACE's have been shown to change the biological systems leading toward greater health risks over the course of a lifetime. Harris (2018) provides insight and understanding of how ACEs correlate to the many challenges children face today including the common diagnosis of ADHD, obesity, and asthma. When children are exposed to high stress or toxic stress in their daily lives, such as abuse, neglect, or dysfunction, it affects the stress response system altering the developing brain and changes not only the neurobiological system, but the immune, hormonal and cardiovascular systems as well. This approach takes a deeper look into a child’s overall health and gets to the root cause as opposed to looking superficially at the behaviors and just putting a Band-Aid on it. Understanding this helps to ensure proper treatment, setting the child up for a healthier life. Early intervention leads to the prevention of mental and physical illnesses that affect many adults today.
The parents of Jungle Roots Children’s Dentistry and Orthodontics put their child's health first. This we know because you are with us to take care of their dental needs. We feel this book is a source of information to further your understanding of how to provide your child with the best care. We have attached the most recent copy of the Center for Youth Wellness ACE-Q-survey below.
At Jungle Roots Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics, we strive to provide the highest comprehensive pediatric and orthodontic dental care in a unique, fun-filled environment staffed by a team of caring, energetic professionals.
